A Doberman Pinscher named Khan saves baby from deadly snake attack

In 2007 a Doberman Pinscher named Khan was rescued from an animal shelter. Just four days later he would save his new owner’s baby girl from a deadly snake attack.
On the day of the incident, seventeen-month-old Charlotte Svillcic was playing in the garden of her home in Atherton, Australia.

At first Khan began acting strangely, it seemed as if he was being slightly aggressive towards Charlotte, attempting to push her away from where she played.

The fact was, Khan had spotted a King Brown snake, the world’s third most venomous snake and he was trying to nudge her to safety.

As the snake was about to strike the baby girl, Khan did the most heroic thing.

Charlotte’s mother Catherine takes up the story, “if I had not seen it with my own eyes I would never have believed it,” she said. “Khan was really concentrating, he kept trying to nudge her but it wasn’t working, so he grabbed her by the back of the nappy and threw her over his shoulder more than a meter.”

With baby Charlotte clear, Khan ended up taking a venomous bite to the paw himself.

“Charlotte looked pretty shocked and Khan screamed, like he’d been stabbed,” said Catherine. “I realised quickly it was a snake and Khan had been trying to get in between her and the snake before he threw her.”

After being bitten, Khan ran inside and collapsed. He was given a shot of anti-venom by a vet and spent a night in a lot of pain but managed to survive and eat a large breakfast the next day.

Catherine said that the family was incredibly moved by Khan’s selfless and protective act.

Catherine also explained the condition of Khan when he was rescued by Kerry Kinder (Doberling Boarding Kennels owner). He was starving, had broken ribs and had been beaten.

“He was an abused dog. It was borderline on whether or not he should be put down because he was in such a bad way,” she said.

In contrast to the treatment Khan endured before his rescue, Catherine said he would spend the rest of his life in luxury.

“If Khan wants a gold bowl, Khan gets it. We owe him for the rest of his life.”

An Atherton snake expert told local press that Khan may have escaped death because the snake was not able to inject a large amount of venom into his paw. The story would have been very different had the bite pierced the skin of little Charlotte.

The dog who had been unwanted just a week before was now “Khan the Wonder Dog” to his owners. They knew for certain he had saved their daughter’s life by risking his own.

I think Kahn is a wonderful dog saving the child’s life after being adopted when he had a difficult time in his own life. This was his way of showing his love for being adopted in just a few short days! He knew there was danger and was pushing the child. The mom saw this and came out and saw her daughter was ok. Then she saw Kahn passed out . Lots of love to mom for getting Kahn to the vet in time, not thinking he was just being bad and leaving him outside. I know Kahn wanted to get better to stay with this family. Glad both are well. This was a wonderful ending!

Some of the posts I’ve seen are dumb AF! But its cool, humans are such selfish and self centered pieces in my opinion! Anyways, I love animals! They’re so simple! I especially love dobermans! If it wasn’t for that beautiful dog, that child would be dead! Kahn is a hero! Should be treated like a king like all animals should be treated! I love snakes also but I also know when they should be killed and that was one example! I was blown away when I read this! To see how smart and how caring Kahn is! He was abused, had a difficult life and still saw the beauty of a human life! Idk about y’all but this story makes me cry in happiness! Such a selfless act! Something most humans aren’t able to do! I say most cause I think of that mother who adopted that dog! That mother took in a dog that had so much pain and gave him a home where he can grow! And her doing that saved her child! If she didn’t do that selfless act of adopting Kahn, her child would be gone! Such a beautiful story! Not only I see hope in animals but I see hope in humans even when I think so low of them sometimes!
